Interceptor is a new advanced device capable of enhancing the hydrodynamics of semiplaning and planing craft.
Interceptors generate a high pressure on a planing surface by intercepting the flow at the transom by a blade (see fig. 1) resulting on a highly hydrodynamic lift and a low hydrodynamic drag.

In fact the lift-drag ratio of the interceptor is higher than that of an equivalentflap or wedge. Typically both weight and power are only about one tenth of that of an equivalent transom flap arrangement.

Interceptor units are used for:

Trimming: effective control of the vessel's trim and list is provided.

Steering: alternative steering control to the use of water jet bucket deflection (or rudders) at high speed (see fig. 2).
